Earlier today The CW announced that seven of its series have been renewed for the 2017-2018 season. More specifically, the network has given early renewals to all of its comic book franchises -Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow- as well as to Supernatural, Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
This announcement was made ahead of the network's presentation at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena by the network’s president Mark Pedowitz. “Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas. Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long,” Mark Pedowitz said.
Shows that did not receive an early pickup include midseason dramas The 100, iZombie and The Originals, and freshman series Frequency, Riverdale and No Tomorrow.
Finally, The CW has already announced that The Vampire Diaries and Reign will not return for new seasons, and that their 2016-2017 runs will be their last.
