That's right! You heard the great news: This Is Us got signed up for a full season! Last week there was a hole in our week where our show should have been. This Is Us did not air as they were having the first presidential debate. Here you will see clips of the stars of This Is Us in promos, interviews and recaps. There will also be a poll. I will have a recap of episode 102 called "The Big 3" which is a fabulous follow-up to the pilot! There will also be episode 103 "Kyle" Promos for tonight's show which airs at it's official time slot on Tuesday nights on NBC at 9pm EST!
If you haven't seen the first 2 episodes of This Is Us, please go out and do so! This article will contain SPOILERS, so proceed gingerly. I have several This Is Us articles out, but the main one for the pilot episode is: Advance Review - This Is Us - Get Ready To Love This Big-Hearted Show! When the This Is Us pilot episode aired on tv, it ranked as the biggest new series debut so far this fall. Perhaps it was a combination of Milo's "assets" and the fact that the show is so heartwarming! It earned a 4.2 rating among 18-to-49-year-olds and 13.5 million viewers when factoring in three days of DVR viewing. NBC ordered 5 additional episodes which brings it to a full season with 18 episodes!
I absolutely love this video! I call it the EW sorry, not sorry for making us cry clip. I like the video picture as it shows the "family" all together. This Is Us has been filled with plot twists, emotional moments, and lots of tears, so Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley are here to apologize for the emotional roller coaster. I love how they apologize for doubling your Kleenex bill...LOL! I was personally a mess after the first episode.
Can I just say how much I LOVE these two!?! Chrissy Metz (Kate) and Chris Sullivan (Toby) are so adorable both onscreen and off! The two sat down for a Facebook Live with Xfinity and answered questions from the fans. They look like they have a cute friendship and have a lot of fun chatting with the fans from everything to past roles, being "star" spotted, and what the show This Is Us means to them.
Episode 102 - "The Big 3" was Wonderful! The adult(Kevin, Kate and Randall)'s stories seem to be told in real time and in continuation from the pilot. The parent(Jack and Rebecca)'s stories seem to jump around a bit. The pilot had ended with the babies having just been born, while in episode 2 has them at 8 years old. I liked the 2nd episode very much. It is kinda different from the first, but still very good. It is sad to see when couples go through troubles, but Mandy and Milo are so adorable and we wish the best for them!
At the start of the show, you are seeing that Rebecca and Jack are a little strained in their relationship. Rebecca is trying to do everything and getting tired of it and not having Jack as invested in the family and children as she is. Jack undermines Rebecca's trying to get Kate to eat more healthy. The best part is the saying that Jack made up with the kids: "First Came Me (Kevin) and Dad Said Gee, Then Came Me (Kate) and Mom Said Wee, Then Came Me (Randall) and We Said That's Three! Big Three!" Adorable as we get to see this twice in this episode, early on as kids around the breakfast table and later as adults trying to rekindle relationships as siblings!
Here we see Jon Huertas (Castle) as Miguel, the best friend of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia). They are at a bar and Jack is heavily drinking and expressing to his best friend Miguel that living with Rebecca has become very hard for him. Miguel is telling him to snap out of it that she is a lovely woman, way above him, raises his kids and don't give her a reason to question being with him.
Back to the future kids, we have Kevin (Hartley) going to his sister Kate (Metz) to look for her advice on what to do now that he has quit his job at the TV show. The production won't let him out of his contract. I love Kevin and Kate! We all need Kate pep talks! She gives him the courage to face his fears and go forward with what he feels is right. He asks her to come to the Hollywood party that will have his high-powered agent (Katey Sagal, Sons of Anarchy) and the network president (Brad Garrett, Everybody Loves Raymond). Showrunner Dan Fogelman said, "It's Sagal's take on Ari Emanuel (Co-CEO of William Morris Endeavor)." I loved seeing her on this show, especially the scene in the beginning when she tells Kevin to "Take off that hat"! LOL!
I love Toby (Chris Sullivan) and Kate!!! They are so cute together! She is struggling to loose her weight and he is there for her supporting her, but with some humor. The scenes at the weight loss support group were hilarious, especially when she called that girl a "litterer" for throwing her Wendy's food out the window. LOL! Toby begs to come to the Hollywood party and decides to get Kate drunk, so they can have fun. The "Fishing" scene is so Funny! Everybody needs a Toby in their life!!! Wish I had one! Kate is such an awesome character, very real and drunk Kate is hilarious!
I also love the scene where Randall and Kevin bond over the phone. "Mom and Dad Didn't Raise No Whores!" You realize through flashbacks that the brothers weren't very close growing up, but as Randall puts it, "there's still time". I love the older Big 3 chant almost as much as the little kids one, so cute! I think Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) is awesome! You can really see how she is trying to protect Randall and her children with the new addition to the birth father. She is worried as he used to be a drug user and is not sure on what his motives are and how long he intends on staying in her home. Sterling is so handsome! The chemistry between Randall and Beth is wonderful!
Randall's girls excitedly say, "Grandma and Grandpa are here!" But it is not exactly what we expected! At the door is not an older set Jack and Rebecca, but Rebecca and Miguel? (I thought the make-up that they made Jon and Mandy look older was very good!)
Ok guys! I kinda saw this one coming. Not from something I read, but the flow of the episode. The best friend Miguel was too close to the situation and giving Jack advice and complimenting his wife a bit too much. Sometimes when people die or drift apart, the best friend of the husband gets closer in a different way, to console, etc. and it changes. I have seen it lots of times, especially in older people, they don't want to be alone, especially if they have that connection. That being said, it was still a shock to me very much as I wasn't expecting that!!! I of course are on team Mandy and Milo, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out over the course of the season.
When they talked about the "moon necklace" and that she's never going to take it off, I first thought...Oh, I wonder if Kate was wearing the necklace to the Hollywood party. I don't usually notice little things like that until they're mentioned. A necklace like that would become a family heirloom to be passed onto a daughter or granddaughter. I was going to rewind, but then Randall's kids are like, "Grandma and Grandpa are here". Up until this reveal, we did not know if either Mom Rebecca or Dad Jack are still living. I can't believe this twist ending!?! Rebecca and Miguel!?! My heart is breaking! And now we are all wondering, "What Happened To Jack!?!"
Not sure if it is just me, but I feel that something is up with the biological dad (Ron Cephas Jones). I am not sure what it will be as I haven't watched the 3rd show yet, but it is going to be something. I personally love his voice, demeanor and hope that he is as nice as he appears. I read an interview with the showrunner Dan Fogelman and they inferred that it wasn't a cat that he was feeding that that excuse is a lie. The fact that William was quick to exit the room when the Momma Rebecca was there might have some more meaning. Perhaps she had a run-in with him when Randall was a baby?
Episode 3 takes place after the babies come home from the hospital and they delve into Randall''s background more. From the interview, the showrunner said he had Sterling run the line "Hi Miguel" about 150 times! He wanted to get it just right, endearing hello to mom and a colder hi to Miguel, not mean, just distant as for a step parent. They are inferring that something happens, but we won't see why Mandy is with Jon til over the course of the season, but Jon is going to be in episode 3 as they are at Randall's house for a bit longer and something happens...LOL! It's getting juicy!!!
Some of the cast of This Is Us is sitting around the table discussing Episode 2, "The Big 3"! Chrissy Metz, Milo Ventimiglia, and Justin Hartley talk about the sliding scale of parenthood, body image and what went into making the episode. It's cool to hear them talk about behind the scenes things!
I Love this Promo for "The Big Three"!!! Sums the show up to a tee!
Episode 103: “Kyle” (Tuesday, Oct. 11 in its regular 9 p.m. timeslot), "Rebecca (Mandy Moore) makes a surprise visit to Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) home where she encounters his biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones). Kevin (Justin Hartley) anxiously decides to take the plunge and move to New York to pursue a Broadway job, with the expectation that his sister, Kate (Chrissy Metz), will move with him. Toby (Chris Sullivan) is determined to get Kate out of Kevin’s shadow and prepares a special day where she is in the limelight. Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca take home their babies from the hospital and adjust to the new life of parenthood, while coping with the loss of their other child. Rebecca struggles to connect with their adopted child and searches for answers."
This Is Us is on TONIGHT in it's official time-slot of Tuesday nights on NBC at 9pm EST! I can't wait to see what they do next! Tonight's episode is called "Kyle" and will feature the babies when they first get home from the hospital! Are you going to watch it?
